The restoration of our old townhouse in Allemans has been a Herculean labour of love which has kept us busy and happy for hours, days and months! We are now excited to welcome guests to our chambres d’hôte in this characterful and vibrant French village. We are surrounded by fabulous fresh food and artisan markets, local and international vineyards; there are many more historical and interesting places to visit and experience in an area renowned for its wine, prunes and tomato production.
Breakfast is served al fresco and we offer optional evening meals if you have a late arrival or are not tempted by the local restaurants and hostelries. Meals are planned with the emphasis on the excellent quality of the local produce, producing tasty, simple and homemade food. Vegetarians and vegans welcome.
Riverside Studio Textiles are also based in our home, offering year-round exhibitions of work by local artisans. Original and unique pieces of work are available to buy and to commission, together with handmade gifts, prints and cards.

The local markets in France are always packed with the freshest and tastiest produce, and the work of local artisans. The weekly markets are a must for locals and tourists alike, and there is at least one market in one of the local towns every day of the week. The colours and aromas are excitingly tantalising: the stalls are full of freshly picked fruit and vegetables and always seasonal, you can take your pick of wonderful meats and cheeses that are not to be found in any supermarket, and homemade pattiserie stalls offer incredible breads and cakes. During the summer months many of the villages and towns offer Les Marches Nocturnes (night markets) which are a delightful way to spend an evening: people gather in the squares and streets to enjoy local food and wine in the convivial company of like-minded ‘foodies’ and wine lovers. Local artisans use the opportunity to show off their unique and beautifully crafted wares, and often local musicians add their own brand of artistical talent! The warmer and longer days also bring out the Brocantes and Vide Greniers – an absolute must for all bargain hunters; negotiating skills are universal – a shrug of the shoulders and the offer of a few euros and that treasure is yours! You’ll never be bored!
Whether your passion is a gentle bike ride through the stunningly beautiful French countryside (may be halting for an artisanal lunch en route), or whether your preference is for the more challenging forces of the ‘long haul’ rides, the Lot-et-Garonne provides a wealth of choice for your activity. There are easily accessible and well researched bike routes throughout the region, please click here for further information. Riverside Studio can provide secure storage for your bikes – including motorbikes! France takes ‘le velo’ seriously and 2017 saw the Dordogne play host to Stage 11 (Eymet to Pau) for the famous Tour de France, which thrilled and delighted all those who came to support the event. We look forward to welcoming the Tour back at any time!
If architecture and history are your passions, then this area of France is studded with beautiful historical chateaux and buildings of immense architectural interest. As a fine example, Bordeaux’s beautiful architecture is inseparable from the city’s identity. The old city boasts some 1,800 hectares on the UNESCO World Heritage list and is the world’s major wine industry capital – winning the ‘European Best Destination’ award in 2015. From charming public gardens to monuments full of history, from art galleries hosting major exhibitions to the magnificent Grande Théatre in the city centre, there is something for everyone.
"My first time in South West rural France, and Riverside Studio is a fabulous place to base any stay in the area. From the daily local markets offering mouthwatering local produce, to the architectural and historical beauty of nearby towns and villages such as Issigeac, Duras and Eymet, this area is a dream for those seeking a gentle pace of life and to absorb French culture. Allemans and the local region offer many opportunities to explore and enjoy a foodie culture celebrated world wide.Tim and Mary genuinely welcome guests into their charming riverside home; the love and energy they have put into restoring Riverside Studio is apparent in the comfort of the rooms and in their desire to ensure you have a wonderful memory of your holiday. Whether you are nature lovers or not, al fresco breakfast on the riverside terrace is a joy to share with a range of bird life including kingfishers, red starts, sparrows and robins, not forgetting the geckos and watching the locals successfully fish the river.Riverside Studio comes highly recommended ... Thank you Tim and Mary for making my stay so enjoyable and memorable. I will be back!"
"Full of charm and character, both the rooms had very comfortable double beds and plenty of room to relax and spend time other than in bed. The en suites were immaculate and always warm. Mary and Tim couldnt have been more attentive and helpful and the breakfasts were great. Although the house is in the middle of the village, it is never noisy and just through a passageway to the village square. Parking is free. Check out the amazing frescos in the village church and the local cafe/bar where you can take food bought in the boulangerie next door!"
